Websites and marketing are typically designed with a purpose.  This purpose is usually to increase and improve sales and to increase business revenue. The design of a website is an important factor for this type of purpose.  When a website is pleasant and easy to navigate it can persuade any buyer to spend their hard-earned money. Although it is important for your website to appeal to your visitors, most businesses neglect this purpose. Either they forget to update their design to stick with new and upcoming website design trends or they cannot weigh spending money to improve a design that is not making them as much money as they would like.

This is the dilemma: How can a business justify spending more money on a failing site to make it better?

Well, the best answer is if your business improves your website, you improve your chances of obtaining new buyers or clients thus obtaining more business revenue. Creating a unique website that is a cookie cutter template will help you stand out and give you more opportunities against the thousands or millions of other websites that use the same marketing formula as you. You have less than 5 seconds to grab the attention of your visitor, if you miss this opportunity you may as well have sent them directly to your competition….because they will not be back.

First, look at your current site and the sites of your biggest competitors and see what you are doing wrong. Create a report of your mistakes an the mistakes of your competition, current trends, observe through analytics, and even just ask your visitors what you can do better.

Second, take a look at your other methods of marketing.  Look at your social networking (if you do not use social networks for your business, that is your first mistake), take a look at your offline marketing, then look at where your target visitors are coming from.  Are they finding you on Google or Facebook? Are they finding you on a billboard or a local advertisement?  Get feedback from the people that matter: your existing customers.  You already have a means to contact them, use it and see why they come to you or why they left.

Third, take this and do the same for your competition, not the mom and pop shops you compete with but the big companies that make millions in yearly revenue. Look at how they succeed and be better at it.  You may have less to work with, but so did they at one time.

These are the first steps to increasing your marketing, thus increasing your business revenue.

What Mistakes Do All Businesses Make?

A lot of businesses, even huge business make the same mistake you probably do, they just do it on a larger scale. Have you ever been to a big website of a brand you have known most of your life and look at their website and think: Why are they paying an intern to create their website?  Why does their website look the same as it did when you visited when you were 15 years old? Well, the short answer is they kept with what worked and think they do not need to improve.  They are wrong.  Like their website, their marketing in general is probably stale and people are craving a new influence to come in a take their breath away. Their business revenue may not be hit as hard as yours, but they have an established name to work with.

All business hit a wall with their advertising, especially if they are doing it themselves or hiring a cheap friend of the family.  You limit yourself and your growth potential when you think small.  Eventually, you get bored and leave your marketing to stale. Potential buyers do not stop coming, but if you website looks like it did five or even ten years ago, your visitor instantly assume that your company is gone or not a place they are willing to do business with.

The simple truth is that a website or marketing plan that has not aged well is perceived as non-credible or weak. This is a huge factor is most lost sales online and even offline.  Your visitors must be able to find you first and like what they see second.  If your website is old or has not been updated for months, then search engines slowly lower your page listing which in turn decreases your visibility.

If a visitor can find you they may run into other issues such as products that have not been updated or have not been removed if they are out of stock, prices that are out of touch with reality, or a navigation that prevents them from seeing what they came to your site for in the first place.
