More and more businesses today are realizing that it is not enough to have a beautiful, dynamic website. They need to have a social media presence.

TO IGNORE SOCIAL MEDIA IS TO IGNORE ONE OF THE GREATEST MARKETING TOOLS

And its free! What makes it so great? For one, is it terrific for improving your SEO. This is because Google searches for signs of authority through social shares, traffic, and social signals. Being higher on the google searches and providing people with more ways to find you (and your website) brings more people to your virtual doorstep. A social media presence gives you another way to engage with your audience and build relationships. You’re not only more available to them through messages but also through posts, reviews, and tweets. Take advantage of this by responding back to them!

Engaging with your followers brings you a whole new light to your market. You will grow a better understanding of who your customers are and what they want. This is priceless. This is why so many big businesses take advantage of social media. They are getting immediate feedback and are responding to the challenge it brings.

WHAT CONTENT SHOULD YOUR BUSINESS CREATE?

You may have heard it said that content is king but what makes good social media content? There’s no true right answer for this because every brand is different. What works for Victoria Secret will probably not work for a charity organization.

WHEN IT COMES TO CONTENT, AUTHENTICITY IS KEY!

What is true to your brand and the people you want to be a part of it? This information only comes from knowing not only your brand but the people you want to love you. Research is important and social media engagement can bring you insight.

I once had McDonald’s tweet me to “Commence a happy dance” in response to a tweet I made about their hotcakes. This brings not only humor to their brand, it builds a surprising association that is new and personal to me. That is authenticity!

Building your social media presence should be done with strategy and, most importantly, authenticity in mind. Making this effort will benefit your business not just in SEO but also in forming new relationships that could be made possible by the social media platforms we have.
