As a business leader, there’s a good chance that you’re one of the main faces of the business. That means that sooner or later you’ll be involved when it’s time to make video content for the business. This is one instance where appearances definitely matter, which means you’ll need to take the time and put forth the effort to look your best. So what should you be doing?
Hair
All types of hair can be beautiful when properly cared for and styled. For video content, hair should be groomed and styled in such a way that it doesn’t distract viewers from the purpose of the video (unless the purpose of the video involves hair, anyway). Think about things like the type of hair you have, its length, and the personality you want to portray when you choose the style you want for your hair. It’s a good idea to do a test run to try your chosen style out ahead of time unless you’re getting it professionally done. That way you know how to do it, how much time it will take to do, and what to expect the end result to be like.
Skin
There’s a pretty good chance that you’ll have at least one shot that’s close enough for viewers to see what sort of condition your skin is in. Take the time to care for your skin in the weeks leading up to production so you’ll have clear skin that looks beautiful and healthy. This isn’t something you’ll be able to leave until the last minute, especially if you want to have any treatments done. If you want skin treatments like botox, you’ll need to plan ahead since it takes 1-2 weeks to see results from botox treatments. Whatever you choose to do, make sure you give yourself enough time to develop the results you’re looking for when production time rolls around. Don’t bank on makeup being able to cover everything up. Makeup can only look as good as the canvas it’s on, which in this case is your face.
Makeup
Regardless of your gender and normal makeup leanings, it’s a good idea to wear some makeup to help you look your best in the video. As counterintuitive as it might sound, makeup can go a long way towards giving you a natural, healthy look. Not wearing it can cause you to look washed out with flat features that don’t stand out in a positive way. Something as simple as a light foundation with perhaps a faint touch of cheek color can help even out your complexion, give your skin a healthier appearance, and minimize the look of dark circles under your eyes. Keep in mind that makeup for videos isn’t always the same as the makeup people wear on a day to day basis. This is another thing you’re going to want to practice before you actually get to the point where you’re shooting the video.
Clothing Colors
What you wear for the video is a big deal, especially in regards to the color of your clothing. Wear the wrong colors and you could end up looking sick even if your makeup is otherwise flawless. Choose colors that work for your skin tone so you can look healthy and vibrant. For the best results, make your selection while you’re wearing the makeup you’ll have on for when you shoot the video. That way you’ll have the best shot of getting clothes in colors that match your complexion. Keep in mind what your background is going to be like when you’re choosing colors as well. You don’t want to accidentally disappear because your clothing is too similar to your background, nor do you want the colors to clash unpleasantly.
Clothing Style
It’s not just about the color of your clothes though. The style of dress you choose to wear for the video can say a lot about you and your company. Therefore, it should be carefully considered before you make your final selections. Think about the level of formality your dress has and what it says. This is an excellent opportunity to market your business’s brand and showcase its style and personality. Do your best to choose styles of clothing that are consistent with the personality you’re supposed to have for your position with the business as well as the business’s brand itself. It can be a little tricky to do sometimes, but the time and effort you put in can really pay off if you can do it right.
It’s hard to understate the importance of looking your best when you’re a part of the video content that gets created for your business. All video content should be looked at as a marketing opportunity, which means it needs to be taken seriously. It has to be good quality if it’s going to be effective, so attention needs to be given to each visual element. Remember to keep everything consistent with your company’s brand to make it as impactful as possible.
